Hi! I’m Nick.

Funny how from simple things, the best things begin.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition

(download)
What can I say except that LucasArts has impressed me immensely. Not only am I happy that they are refreshing the Monkey Island brand, but the latest 'The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition' was done so well, I have to give it two-thumbs up. A stellar show that they aren't just in it for the money, but also to make fans like us (yeah we're old) happy.

At only 800points on XBox Live arcade, or US$9.95 on Steam or D2D, this is well worth it. As you can see from the picture above: a comparison of the original game and the remastered. Full voice acting, special effects, high-quality music score, and the ability to play the original version - makes this a well-worth it purchase. If the demand for this game is high enough, LucasArts will remake 'Monkey Island 2: Le Chuck's revenge' - the best game of the series.

So until then, I will be promoting this game to all my (old) friends. 2D adventure games like these don't come along often anymore in a 3D generation. So, what are you waiting for?

TiC Preview Screening: The Proposal

tonguechic.com is giving away 75 pairs of tickets to watch a private preview screening of The Proposal. All you have to do is answer a few questions - read more about it here. Good luck on winning. My submission below,

How would you like to be proposed to?
On a holiday, with an incredible, unforgettable everlasting memory.

Would you like your boyfriend to take the conventional route and go through your dad first?
I'm a guy. I would do it out of principles regardless how their relationship with the daughter is. No blessing? I'm not asking, I'm informing.

Would you like to be sent on a wild treasure hunt that eventually leads you to a 13 carat fist of a diamond?
I wouldn't send a girl on a treasure hunt. Unless I can craft in air travel, and a story.

Would you rather he get on all fours, rather than one knee?
One knee.

Or would you prefer handling the proposal yourself because you're so much more competent than your boyfriend when it comes to the romancing?

Not an option. I do it.

I'll give you a tip: because Joyce and I are in dire need of other-wordly romance in our lives (hence why we're itching to watch The Proposal), tell us your dream proposal to make us melt with aww to ensure winning stakes! :)

3 days of build up - perfect memories, sincere emotions, and Oscar winning scriptwriting. Perhaps the proposal would be on a skyscraper on a starry night, or a glass chalet overlooking the endless sea.

TokBox - Multi-Video Chat

Kamen, Ken, Ching Mun, and I have been testing out TokBox - a multi-video chat that's shaped like email. Leave video mails, and give similar options to your blog visitors by embedding the widget. There's also an Adobe AIR app, and a firefox plugin. The plugin integrates TokBox into your facebook chat.

It's been a pretty good run so far, voice and video quality is excellent. The whole service is a web app, no downloads necessary. You can also import youtube, flickr, picasa streams onto the chat - this allows you to surf web-content with your friends. Just login, and sign into your IM service (Yahoo!, MSN, Gmail, etc.) and invite your friends to start chatting.

Foundation for A Better Life

We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection. – Dalai Lama, Head of the Dge-lugs-pa order of Tibetan Buddhists, 1989 Nobel Peace Prize.

As human beings it is our very nature to connect, to be able to experience, to share, and to care. No one should ever feel like they are walking alone. I’d like to share with you a cause I am particularly very passionate about; before I go away for a week long holiday. I may not have a chance to blog but I’ll be twittering.

This would be the Foundation of a Better Life (FBL). The mission of FBL, through various media efforts, is to encourage adherence to a set of quality values through personal accountability and by raising the level of expectations of performance of all individuals regardless of religion or race.

Through these efforts, FBL reminds individuals that they are accountable and empowered with the ability to take responsibility for their lives and to promote a set of values that sees them through their failures and capitalizes on their successes. An individual who takes responsibility for his or her actions will take care of his or her family, job, community, and country.

FBL is also the sister foundation of The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, which inspires people to practice kindness and to “pass it on” to others.

One of FBL’s videos (Hope):

You can find the unofficial Facebook group here, and iPod video downloads here (You’ll need to register, and the videos can also be played on the PC/Mac). You can also find out more, including widgets, TV/Radio/Billboard ads over at values.com

FBL is largely unknown outside of North & South America, however it is my agenda to one day make it as well known as possible in Malaysia, and Singapore. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the people at FBL HQ for supporting my efforts throughout the years, and for graciously sending me promotional materials.

Nick's Top YouTube Video Log Subscriptions

YouTube hosts a plethora of videos, from the professionals to the amateurs. Filtering all those videos can sometimes be a chore. Also, many people I know don’t usually subscribe to videos, they just watch what friend’s link to them, or visit a site that talks/links a video, or just randomly browse around YouTube.

So in this post I’d like to share some of my favourite video log directors with you. I’ve been following these directors for nearly 2 to 3 years now – have grown to love them, respect their styles, inquisitive about their life, and point-of-view (However mental it may be!). What makes these people enjoyable to watch: is the way they express themselves on camera. Their personalities (and the accents!) really do get to you. It’s all about confidence, and charisma. Do enjoy, and please share some of your personal favourites with me as well.

communitychannel
Hailing from Australia is Natalie, otherwise known as “communitychannel” on YouTube. Natalie has a distinctive style of vlogging, and she does it very naturally. She takes her thoughts, epiphanies, and experiences and reenacts them in a funny exaggerated way. Well, atleast I think she’s exaggerating, would be kinda weird. Anyway, during these reenactments where there are multiple people involved, she portrays all these personas by herself.

thewinekone
Next up is Tony Huynh from Canada, otherwise known as “the winekone“. He has quiet a variety of videos but it all centers around one thing: that he is an idiot. But he makes people laugh, so thats good :) He’s spontaneous in his spewing of crap, and once in a while he comes out with nice skits. I also think he looks like a younger version William So.

AgentXPQ
Lev Yilmaz from the United States has something creative to offer. He narrates his stories while you watch him draw cartoons of his (sometimes) ironic life. The series is called; “Tales of Mere Existence”.

theresident
Lori Harfenist is a resident of the beautiful metropolitan city: New York. She’s a pro mediacaster who has worked with many big corporations like E! and UGO. She does mostly 2 things, one is she roams the streets questioning citizens on a subject matter, or she’s indoors and does short videos of her thoughts.

thehill88
Australian Caitlin Hill is very popular on YouTube. Her vlog has nothing jazzy, it’s her personality that extends out of the camera. Her quirkiness, and natural attitude is what her following of subscribers has grown to love.

hughsnews
Hugh’s a 25 year old Archaeologist from Australia – who just got a scholarship to pursue his Phd (grats!). He does a mixture of skits and video logs. Very funny. Very amusing.

Katers17
Kate is from the United Kingdom, and is a graduate of graphic design. She enjoys reading, playing video games, and being mental – she doesn’t just claims it – she has proven it over, and over. She’s spunky in her mixture of skits, and video logs. I like Kate, she’s good on the camera. Anyone that disagrees will have the RIAA check their computer for illegal mp3s! Only time will tell how Kate (and her videos) would mature as she ages.

Hope you enjoyed!
